Countries With the Fastest-Growing Tech Jobs?

Where the next generation of coders and engineers is actually coming from.

In partnership with

Greetings, forward-looking reader of where work is headed next!

The center of gravity for the global tech workforce is shifting faster than most headlines suggest.

While layoff news out of Silicon Valley dominates the conversation, an entirely different story is unfolding elsewhere โ€” millions of new developers are entering the workforce every year, and increasingly, they're not in the countries you'd expect.

So where is tech employment actually growing fastest right now?

Let's dive in.

Protect your identity now with Coveron comprehensive coverage

Identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in America. Criminals don't wait to steal everything, they test stolen identities with small charges before launching major fraud. By the time you notice, they've opened credit cards, taken out loans, or claimed tax refunds in your name.

Coveron watches your credit 24/7, monitors the dark web, and alerts you immediately when suspicious activity is detected. We watch, we warn, we help recover:

  • Up to $1M to cover identity theft recovery costs.

  • Up to $10K for losses from online scams.

  • Up to $50K to cover eligible costs, including payments made in response to the threats.

And with dedicated case managers to handle the legal and financial mess.

One scam can cost you everything - protect yourself now. The first 100 users get 20% off with code beehiivenewsletter.

GitHub's latest global developer census reveals just how dramatically the geography of software development has shifted in six years.

๐ŸŒ Central and Southern Asia leads every region on Earth, with developer activity now nearly 7 times its 2019 level.

๐ŸŒ Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East and North Africa region both follow at more than 5 times their 2019 levels.

๐ŸŒ Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania combined have grown more than 4.5 times, and Latin America has grown roughly 4 times over the same period.

Every one of these regions is now growing faster than the traditional centers of the tech industry in North America and Western Europe.

๐Ÿ’ก Worth noting: this isn't just India and China anymore โ€” the report specifically credits Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka for accelerating Central and Southern Asia's growth, and Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa for Sub-Saharan Africa's surge.

No single country illustrates this shift more clearly than India, whose trajectory over the next few years is projected to reshape the entire global developer map.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India counted 21.9 million developers on GitHub in 2025.

By 2030, that figure is projected to reach approximately 57.5 million โ€” making India the largest single developer community on Earth.

That's a projected increase of more than 160% in just five years, a pace no other major tech nation is expected to match.

๐Ÿ”Ž Worth sitting with: India added 5.2 million new developers in a single year, 2025 alone โ€” more new developers than most countries have ever had in total.

Even before India's projected surge plays out, the gap at the very top of the global rankings has already narrowed dramatically.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The United States remains the largest developer nation by total headcount, with 28 million developers on GitHub.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India now sits close behind at 21.9 million โ€” and for the first time ever, India actually surpassed the US in total open-source contributor count this year, even though the US still leads on raw registered developer numbers.

The two countries are now separated by just over 6 million developers, a gap that's projected to close entirely well before the end of the decade.

๐Ÿ“Š Worth remembering: as recently as 2022, GitHub itself projected India wouldn't catch up to the US developer population until 2025 โ€” the actual convergence has happened even faster than that forecast anticipated.

The Next Robotics Category Is Agriculture

If you eat food, you should care about what happens in the fields that grow it. Greenfield Robotics is building robots designed to reduce reliance on herbicides: 82 robots in 16 states for six years. Reserve now for 10% bonus shares when you invest.

Greenfield Robotics is Testing The Waters under tier 2 of Regulation A. No money or other consideration is being solicited, and if sent in response will not be accepted. No offer to buy the securities can be accepted and no part of the purchase price can be received until the offering statement filed by the company with the SEC has been qualified by the SEC. Any such offer may be withdrawn or revoked, without obligation or commitment of any kind, at any time before notice of acceptance given after the date of qualification. An indication of interest involves no obligation or commitment of any kind. โ€œReservingโ€ shares is simply an indication of interest. There is no binding commitment for investors that reserve shares in this manner to ultimately invest and purchase the shares reserved of the company, or to purchase any shares of the company whatsoever.

Total headcount is one measure. A more revealing number is where the newest wave of developers is actually being minted, right now.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India alone accounted for 14% of every single new developer who joined GitHub globally in 2025.

The rest of the world combined accounted for the remaining 86% of new sign-ups.

Given that GitHub added more than 36 million new developers globally in 2025 โ€” its fastest absolute growth rate in the platform's history โ€” India's 14% share represents more than 5 million individual new developers in a single year, from one country alone.

๐Ÿ”Ž Worth considering: one in every three new developers who joined GitHub this year came from a country that wasn't even in the global top 10 as recently as 2020 โ€” a reminder that India's surge is part of a much broader geographic rebalancing, not an isolated story.

Zoom out to the entire platform, and the pace of change looks less like growth and more like a genuine structural shift in how software gets built.

๐Ÿ“ˆ In 2019, developers worldwide pushed roughly 1.7 billion commits to GitHub.

๐Ÿ“ˆ By 2025, that figure had climbed to nearly 5 billion commits โ€” almost a threefold increase in just six years.

That growth has averaged close to 19% annually, with no interruption even during the post-pandemic hiring slowdown that hit tech employment in wealthier countries.

๐Ÿ”ฎ A prediction worth holding onto: if this pace continues, global commit volume could double again well before the end of the decade โ€” driven overwhelmingly by the same emerging markets already leading regional growth today.

Behind the developer headcounts sits an even larger economic story: the actual revenue flowing through India's technology sector.

๐Ÿ’ฐ India's IT industry generated approximately $167 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2018.

๐Ÿ’ฐ By fiscal year 2026, that figure had grown to an estimated $315.4 billion.

That's nearly a doubling of the entire industry's revenue within eight years, a compound annual growth rate of roughly 8.3% sustained over the better part of a decade.

๐Ÿ’ก Worth noting: exports alone account for $246.4 billion of that 2026 total โ€” meaning India's tech sector isn't just growing domestically, it's increasingly becoming the back office and engineering department for companies headquartered everywhere else in the world.

To close, it's worth spotlighting the single most dramatic growth story on the entire African continent.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Nigeria's developer population on GitHub has now surpassed 700,000.

That represents 100% growth โ€” Nigeria's developer community has effectively doubled in size, making it Africa's largest and fastest-growing national tech workforce.

Lagos, in particular, has emerged as a genuine continental hub, with strong communities specifically in JavaScript and Python development.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Worth remembering: GitHub's own researchers specifically flagged Nigeria, alongside Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco, as poised to add millions more developers in the coming years โ€” meaning this doubling may turn out to be just the opening chapter, not the peak.

The story of the world's fastest-growing tech jobs isn't really about Silicon Valley at all anymore. The center of gravity has started to move.

The only real question left is how quickly the rest of the world catches up to that fact.

Stay informed, stay curious, and keep watching where the next great engineering team is quietly being built.
